- Vacation in Alaska, June 2004:
- We flew into Anchorage and drove the Scenic Byway to Seward. Along Turnagain Arm, we saw rushing streams; felt strong winds; panned for gold at Indian Valley Mine. Further down the road we encountered moose (just barely visible are twin calves at her right); mountains, mountains and more mountains; saw boats of all kinds; harbor seals swimming in the bay and their skeletons hanging in the Alaska Sealife Center; and took lots of photographs on the waterfront-- Julia and Paula and Julia and David. We treked to Exit Glacier and were amazed by the enormity and the colors and the mounds of glacial till left by the receding ice. From Anchorage we caught the Alaskan Railroad to Denali National Park.
- Denali National Park: River rafting on the Tanana River. Due to high-than-average temperatures and glacial melt, the river was 8" higher and rougher than its usual level 2. Once the guide determined we would enjoy a bumpier ride, he headed for the dips. On to Fairbanks on the Alaskan Railroad.
- We stayed with Kit in Fairbanks and made excursions into town and the countryside. The lurking photographer snaps Kit and his kitty in their comfort zone between tourist jaunts; Julia in her comfort zone at the Fairbanks Library
- Favorite pastimes include dressing up and face painting--
cowgirl (for Brookside Country Fair, May 2004),
space girl and rockin' girl. April 2004
- Playing with best friend, Rhiannon, with toys moved out of her room in preparation for having it painted in tropical colors. May 2004
